5 Lessons From My Summer Internship at Hold Brothers

From Hold Brothers summer intern Ian Bolger:

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with Hold Brothers in Midtown Manhattan. I had a great experience and learned lessons that I can take home and apply to all other areas of life. Here are takeaways from my five weeks at Hold Brothers:

1. Thoroughness is essential for smooth transactions

Working on numerous projects, it became clear that conducting proper vetting, keeping meticulous records as well as being prepared to answer any questions with certainty are three critical factors in business exchanges.

2. Always have a plan B to resolve issues quickly

When working with banks and learning about market restructuring and regulatory changes that can affect business operations, it quickly became clear that backup plans are necessary at all times.

3. It is not only about the end results, but also about the hard work that gets you there

Some results were not what I expected. It was important to be able to look beyond past results and focus on the work that will help achieve success.

4. The ability to communicate effectively can take you far in life

Direct and persistent communication at all steps during the transaction process fostered positive results and made success much more attainable.

5. New York City is a beautiful place to live, but the morning commute is entirely unpredictable
